CHIEFS NOTEBOOK: Bad place to visit
The Kansas City Star
The Raiders draw a colorful assortment of characters for their games at McAfee Coliseum, but the place is not a particularly inviting one for visiting fans. It’s well-known around the NFL as the most intimidating to travelers.
Veteran visitors know to keep their loved ones away. Chiefs quarterback Trent Green is one such player.
“I highly discourage it for my family and friends,” Green said. “The fact this is a night game and they’ll have all day Sunday to get revved up, I issue caution to all the Chiefs fans that are going to brave the game. We’ll take all the support we can get. Just be smart with some of your comments if things are going our way because they really have a passion for their team. Just make sure you’re careful.”
MAKESHIFT LINE
High-quality practice time might be essential for the Chiefs as they try to cover for injuries on their offensive line, but it’s proving to be elusive. The Chiefs worked Thursday with only two of their normal line starters and three of those they expect to open against the Raiders.
From left to right, this is how the Chiefs lined up: Kevin Sampson, Johnathan Ingram, Casey Wiegmann, Will Shields and Chris Bober. Only Wiegmann and Shields are regulars, though Bober was to be a starter against the Raiders because of injuries.
One starter, left tackle Willie Roaf, has a sore hamstring, and coach thingy Vermeil said it was unlikely he would play Sunday. Another, left guard Brian Waters, didn’t practice because of a sore back, though he’s not listed on the injury report.
A third starter, tackle Jordan Black, has the flu.
Ryan Sims, Tony Richardson and Dewayne Washington also did not practice.
Vermeil indicated Sims would be out several weeks and perhaps the rest of the season.
“He’s going to miss a lot of time,” Vermeil said.
