KANSAS CITY AGREES TO TERMS WITH FB ROBERT HOLCOMBE

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Thursday that the club has agreed to terms of a one-year contract with free agent FB Robert Holcombe.
Holcombe (5-11, 208) has played in 97 career games (30 starts), rushing 337 times for 1,141 yards (3.4 avg.) with 11 touchdowns and catching 69 passes for 573 yards (8.3 avg.) with three touchdowns. He has added 23 special teams tackles and seven kickoff returns for 64 yards (9.1 avg.) He has also appeared in 10 postseason contests (four starts), recording 23 carries for 56 yards (2.4 avg.) and 10 receptions for 53 yards (5.3 avg.). Prior to spending the past three seasons (2002-04) with Tennessee, he played four seasons with Rams (’98-01). The eight-year pro was member of the Rams squad led by thingy Vermeil that posted a 23-16 victory vs. Tennessee in Super Bowl XXXIV.
The 29-year old Holcombe has experience playing both fullback and running back in NFL after enjoying a record-setting career at Illinois. Holcombe saw duty in 16 games (eight starts) for Tennessee in 2004, rushing 17 times for 62 yards (3.6 avg.) and catching 11 passes for 60 yards.
Holcombe originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (37th overall) of St. Louis in ‘98. He appeared in 13 games (six starts) as a rookie, toting the ball 98 times for 230 yards (2.3 avg.) and catching six passes for 34 yards. The Houston, Texas native totaled 4,105 rushing yards in college to break the Illinois career rushing record, surpassing the previous mark of 2,887 yards. Holcombe carried the ball 294 times for a school single-season record 1,253 yards (4.3 avg.) with four TDs as a senior in ‘97. That season he also led the team with 35 receptions for 277 yards (7.9 avg.) with two scores as a seniors. He was named All-America and All-Far West by Prep Football Report at Mesa High School in Mesa, Arizona.
