Bob Gretz, of KCChiefs.com, reports
the Chiefs added an on-field timer that counts down the seconds the passer has in the pocket during drills. The clock was set at three seconds and went off several times while the quarterback still held the ball during mini-camp.
Herman Edwards is determined to clean up the Chiefs penalty problems with two officials working practice. The officials keep track of the players who are hit with the infractions and the next day, that listed is posted and discussed by the head coach.
DT Ryan Sims practiced with the Chiefs' second defensive unit in the final session at full-team mini-camp Sunday, May 21. He reported to camp a bit overweight. "I'm not worried about that right now," said Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards. "But they need to know that if they're a little overweight now, they've got to get it down by training camp. It would be tough on any guy (to be overweight in camp) because of the speed (with which) we're going to run our practices. They're all starting to realize that now."
In Replacement of Sims, DT Steve Williams practiced with the Chiefs' first defensive unit in the final session at full-team mini-camp Sunday, May 21. "That wasn't by accident," said Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards. "We felt (Williams) had worked his tail off to the point that he should take some snaps with the first unit, and that's important."
