Cards Trade RB Jones To Bucs For WR Walker The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today announced that they have traded WR Marquise Walker to the Arizona Cardinals for RB Thomas Jones.
“This is a trade that should be good for both parties,” said Buccaneers General Manager Rich McKay. “Thomas will have an opportunity to come in here and compete, and he certainly has the traits to be a productive player for us. Marquise was caught in a situation where playing time would have been limited and, therefore, this trade will give him a chance to go and compete for more playing time.”
In 2002, Jones rushed for 511 yards on 138 carries (3.7 avg.) and two TDs and had 20 receptions for 113 yards (5.7 avg.). He started eight games for the Cardinals last season prior to being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list on November 26, 2002.
Entering his fourth NFL season, Jones has played in 38 career games with 14 starts. For his career, he has totaled 1,264 rushing yards on 362 carries (3.5 avg.) and nine TDs as well as 73 receptions for 472 yards (6.5 avg.). Jones was originally selected by the Cardinals in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft.
Walker, who was Tampa Bay’s top overall selection in the 2002 NFL Draft (third round, 86th overall), was inactive for the Buccaneers’ first four regular season games last season. Walker was placed on injured reserve on October 1, 2002.
